Bohn's Farm & Greenhouses, Represented by NNP-St. Louis, Furnishes Perennials to High Profile Downtown St. Louis Project.
Bohn's Farms & Greenhouses of Maryville, IL, represented by National Nursery Products - St. Louis has completed furnishing the herbaceous perennials and ground covers for the Citygarden project in downtown St. Louis, MO. The Citygarden is a unique 2.9 acre sculpture and landscape public garden located on two city blocks of the Gateway Mall bordered by Eighth, Tenth, Chestnut and Market Streets.
The Gateway Foundation funded $25 million-plus for the design and construction of the sculpture garden, including state-of-the art lighting, ongoing maintenance, security, and insurance. In addition, the foundation purchased and owns the 20-plus works of art, estimated to be valued at $12 million. The Citygarden is designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects of Charlottesville, VA, with plant selection consulting assistance provided by the horticulture staff of the Missouri Botanical Garden.
Bohn's Farm collaborated with the project landscape architect and Missouri Botanical Garden horticulture staff to ensure the plants selected are appropriate for the environmental conditions of the Gateway region and the rigors of the downtown St. Louis urban landscape. Ultimately, Bohn's Farm supplied 14,750 custom grown herbaceous perennial plants to the project's landscape contractor, Landesign, LLC of Wentzville, MO. Due to the extreme space limitations of the site for staging construction materials, Bohn's Farm serviced Landesign with 16 separate job site deliveries of plant material as areas of the project became available for landscape installation.
The establishment oversight and continued care of the ornamental plant displays is contracted by the Gateway Foundation with Wild Horse Landscaping of Fenton, MO.
The Citygarden, opening July 1, 2009, offers free admission and is open to the public 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, 365 days a year.
